There is a complicated and important connection between trauma exposure and substance use disorders and, as a result, it is critical for treatment providers to address trauma as part of substance abuse treatment. Trauma-related symptoms are known to be a barrier to seeking and engaging in treatment and, if undetected or not addressed, can not only lead to premature dropout but may also make relapse more likely.  This webinar will discuss the relationship between trauma and substance use, as well as how to address both during treatment.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, the attendees will be able to:

·         Understand the connection between trauma exposure and substance use.

·         Identify several ways in which trauma-related symptoms can impair engagement in treatment.

·         Describe treatments that incorporate trauma treatment and treatment for substance use.

Who should attend?

This webinar is designed for clinicians, behavioral health professionals, clinical supervisors, program managers, Certified Recovery Support Specialists (CRSS), Certified Recovery Peer Specialists (CRPS), and executives in substance abuse and mental health agencies, Managing Entities, and DCF program staff.
