The Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association (FADAA), a recipient of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) State Targeted Response to the Opioid Crisis Grants (Opioid STR) funding, is working collaboratively with the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) to increase access to treatment, reduce unmet treatment need, and reduce opioid overdose related deaths through prevention, treatment and recovery activities for opioid use disorder.
To advance the Opioid STR, DCF approved physician peer mentors and FADAA staff members who provide support for the Opioid STR will conduct four statewide Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) meetings. During the meetings, the doctors will conduct a MAT Opioid Use Disorder training and answer any related questions. The meeting will cover topics including, MAT for Opioid Use Disorder diagnosis, choosing medication, treatment modalities, stigma, upcoming State Opioid Response (SOR) priorities and other MAT topics
Who should attend?
This meeting is designed for providers, child welfare workers, program managers, mental health agencies, substance abuse agencies, Managing Entities, and stakeholders that provide or are interested in medication assisted treatment.
Jason Hunt, MD is an assistant professor with the Department of Psychiatry's Division of Addiction Medicine at the University of Florida (UF) College of Medicine. Dr Hunt joined the University of Florida faculty in 2017 after completing the addiction medicine fellowship. Dr. Hunt earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois in 2002. He then completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Louisville in 2006.
Before becoming an addiction medicine physician, Dr. Hunt practiced obstetrics and gynecology for several years in Kentucky and Alabama. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Alabama Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association and worked as a advanced alcohol and drug counselor at DACCO Behavioral Health in Tampa. He now practices addiction medicine at the UF Health Florida Recovery Center. Currently, his responsibilities include evaluating and treating healthcare professionals and other patients admitted to The Florida Recovery Center. He also provides consultation services at UF Health Shands Hospital and Shands Rehabilitation Hospital. Dr Hunt’s interests and expertise are in obstetrics and gynecology, specifically opioid use disorders in pregnancy.
