Addressing the Impact of Synthetic Drugs is a session designed to provide an overview of the history of synthetic drugs and their resurgence in the United States. Participants will take a look at the issue through the lens of prevention, and will look at how to apply the strategic prevention framework at the local, community level to identify drug trends and engage key community sectors to identify strategies to reduce and prevent the impact of synthetic drugs and other substances.

Who should attend?
This webinar is designed for clinicians, clinical supervisors, program managers, prevention agencies, community coalitions and executives in substance abuse and mental health agencies, Managing Entities and DCF program staff.

Presented by:
Dorothy Chaney, M.ED is the Founder of Wisconsin Community Health Alliance, an organization committed to supporting coalitions, agencies and individuals to improve the health of their communities and the environments in which they live. Chaney works nationally and also locally to address health disparities and support the development of local solutions to complex problems. Chaney is the coordinator of the Waukesha County Heroin and Other Illicit Drug Task Force and also serves as the director of the South region of the Alliance for Wisconsin Youth. Chaney has participated on several state workgroups including chairperson of the State Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs (SCAODA) “Controlled Substances Workgroup” which produced the report “Responding To Wisconsin’s Prescription Drug Abuse Crisis: A Call To Action” which was published in 2012, as well as the co-chair of the SCAODA workgroup that produced “Wisconsin’s Heroin Epidemic: Strategies and Solutions” in August 2014. Dorothy is a consultant with the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) and has also consulted on a variety of projects for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Chaney is a nationally recognized trainer and public speaker. In addition to being committed to supporting communities in public health efforts, Chaney is a strong youth advocate and is an elected Board of Education member in Marshfield WI, where she resides with her two daughters. Before moving to Wisconsin in 2006, Ms. Chaney served as the State Executive Director for MADD in Minnesota. Chaney has a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in adult education.
