Health Consciousness (HC) is a process of increasing awareness in the face of potential risks to one’s health. HC assumes that (1) individuals have the desire and ability to stay conscious of their health; (2) accordingly, they recognize triggers (stimuli, symptoms, or behaviors) which suggest they may be at risk of poor health; and (3) then they take corrective action, with protective factors or resources (e.g. Healthy Alternatives). This webinar will walk participants through specific steps for empowering oneself and others to be health conscious as a whole person (physical, emotional, occupational, social, intellectual, and spiritual). This webinar is designed for clinicians, clinical supervisors, program managers, prevention agencies, community coalitions and executives in substance abuse and mental health agencies, Managing Entities and DCF program staff.

Joel BennetJoel Bennett, PhD, is President of Organizational Wellness & Learning Systems (OWLS), a consulting firm that specializes in evidence-based wellness and e-learning technologies to promote organizational health and employee well-being. Dr. Bennett first delivered stress management programming in 1985 and OWLS programs have since reached over 100,000 workers across the United States and abroad. He is primary developer of “Team Awareness” and “Team Resilience,” evidence-based, culture of health programs recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Health as effective in reducing employee behavioral risks. Team Awareness has been adapted by the U.S. National Guard as one of their flagship prevention programs and it has been used by municipalities, hospitals, restaurants, electrician training centers, small businesses, Native American tribal government, and in Italy and South Africa. Dr. Bennett is author/co-author of five books, including “Raw Coping Power: From Stress to Thriving,” and “Heart-Centered Leadership: Lead Well, Live Well.” OWLS has received $5 Million in research funding (NIH, NIDA, NIAAA, SAMHSA) to study interventions that integrate wellness with behavioral health promotion in work settings.
