Case Consulting: Working with Individuals with Behavioral Health Challenges

Orange Park

Date and Time:

Friday, March 23, 2018 - 09:00 AM - 04:00 PM

Clients who present with behavioral health challenges often demonstrate complex treatment needs, which have significant potential for harmful outcomes and limited engagement with systems of care. To optimize care, service providers must develop a clear and holistic understanding of individuals’ needs through assessment strategies and clinical interventions related to specific behavioral health risks.

Many clients enter treatment settings in precontemplation, and are not ready to pursue changes related to their behavioral health concerns. Similarly, service providers may encounter resistance from clients who are mandated to treatment as a condition of involvement with legal systems. Motivational Interviewing is an evidence-based practice that equips workers with concepts and tools to facilitate behavioral change among the populations they serve. This training presents the foundational elements of Motivational Interviewing practice in social service settings. Providers who incorporate Motivational Interviewing skills and other best practices will be equipped to establish therapeutic rapport with clients, overcome barriers to engagement, and facilitate utilization of treatment services.

Through brief lecture, demonstration, and case consultation this training will focus on experiential learning to support workers’ skills and competence in utilizing clinical interventions. The trainer will guide, facilitate, oversee, and process experiential learning activities to ensure accurate practice, appropriate feedback, and incorporation of new skills into every day work.
