This film discusses the topic of AIDS and its relationship to chemical dependency. Dr. David Smith gives a very informative talk providing information about myths, causes, and factors of prevention, statistics, IV drug users and the impact of AIDS in society today.

AIDS Prevention: Choice Not Chance
The primary purpose of this video is to give students more information about HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, and to teach them how to protect themselves and others from infection. The HIV epidemic is made as real as possible without frightening the students. The manner in which the HIV virus can be transmitted is sensitively handled. The program identifies AIDS as a communicable disease but demonstrates how it differs from other communicable diseases familiar to the students. They see the chain of infection for these diseases followed by the way the immune system works, and reacts when invaded by the HIV virus. Students are encouraged to practice good health habits to avoid ordinary infectious diseases. They are also shown that AIDS cannot be caught through casual or ordinary contact. The Disease of Alcoholism: Update
The Disease of Alcoholism Update is an update to the classic video Disease Concept of Alcoholism that Dr. Ohlms released in 1981 and updated in 1991. Differential Diagnosis in Psychiatry

Discusses the negative emotional and physical effects of alcohol, marijuana, cocaine and crack use. Describes the addictive nature of cocaine and crack. Points out the dangers of driving while intoxicated. This program uses the experiences of some members of a high school class to tell the facts about the four drugs. As the video begins, the freshman class is filing into the auditorium for the class photo session. Heroin
This powerful video explores the many devastating effects of heroin - a drug that has become increasingly popular with middle and upper class teens. Viewers meet the family and friends of Brad Taylor, a great guy who seemed to have it all - until he overdosed on heroin and died. Brad's friends and family share their anger at his senseless death, and tell of the pain it left behind. A visit with a toxicologist explains the physical effects of heroin use, how easy it is to become addicted, and the not-so-glamorous symptoms of withdrawal. Recovering addicts reinforce the message as they offer their experiences with the drug. Finally, viewers meet an addict and dealer in New York City. This program finds him in two places where he spends the most time - out on the streets and at a maximum-security jail. A Matter of Balance
This video is designed to show how the body tries to stay in balance and how drugs throw that balance off. Drug Use and Domestic Violence (Research in Progress Videotape)
Discusses preliminary results from a 1995 community study of domestic violence incidents in Memphis, Tennessee, performed to determine the prevalence of domestic violence as well as the factors contributing to it. Survey findings show that 92 percent of assailants and 42 percent of victims used drugs during the day of the assault. In addition, the vast majority of victims had suffered a previous assault by the same assailant, and 91 percent had reported a prior incident to police. Of the assailants arrested at the scene and charged with domestic violence, 75 percent were released within 18 hours. As a result of the study findings, the medical and criminal justice communities in Memphis are collaborating to ease the plight of domestic violence victims and increase the penalties for assault in cases where alcohol, drugs, or weapons are used or children are present.

AIDS Prevention: Choice Not Chance
The primary purpose of this video is to give students more information about HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, and to teach them how to protect themselves and others from infection. The HIV epidemic is made as real as possible without frightening the students. The manner in which the HIV virus can be transmitted is sensitively handled. The program identifies AIDS as a communicable disease but demonstrates how it differs from other communicable diseases familiar to the students. They see the chain of infection for these diseases followed by the way the immune system works, and reacts when invaded by the HIV virus. Students are encouraged to practice good health habits to avoid ordinary infectious diseases. They are also shown that AIDS cannot be caught through casual or ordinary contact. The information about HIV in this program helps to eliminate needless fear and strives to give students a sense of control over their health. Alateen Tells It Like It Is
The sharing of Al-Anon and Alateen members in this 15-minute film captures the essence of the program. The Al-Anon Family Groups are a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength and hope in order to solve their common problems.
