Family Intervention Specialists (FIS)
FIS specialists are substance abuse professionals who are employees of contracted substance abuse providers. They work with, and most are co-located with protective investigation or protective supervision staff.
FIS specialists are staff positions of contracted substance abuse providers who are links to the child welfare system in order to engage and support substance involved child welfare families in appropriate substance abuse treatment and recovery with a goal of improving both substance abuse and child welfare outcomes. Currently, there are 70 FIS specialists working directly with child welfare in Florida.
When a referral is made to a FIS, a face-to-face screening will be scheduled within ten (10) working days from the date of the receipt of the referral package. If the FIS is unable to accomplish this screening within 10 days because the client is unavailable, attempts to schedule and complete the screen and justification for why it was not accomplished shall be documented in the client record.
